Robert Hillier OBE VMH Chairman

Mr Hillier is the fourth generation son of Edwin Hillier who started the family business with a small nursery in Winchester in 1864.

Today, Hillier Nurseries employs 450 people and has a turnover of around £28 million. It comprises 12 garden centres, two trade cash and carry centres, the biggest field production tree nursery in the UK, an extensive shrub nursery and one of Europe’s largest container tree nurseries.

Mr Hillier has been honoured with multiple awards for his contribution to the £56 billion gardening and horticultural industry. He was appointed OBE in 2000, and awarded the Victoria Medal of Honour (VHM) by the Royal Horticultural Society in 2010.
Among the company’s recent successes was the coveted title of International Grower of the Year and a contract to supply trees to the Olympic parks for the London 2012 games. Hillier Nurseries has also achieved the unique distinction of winning 70 consecutive gold medals at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show.

The Southern Society of Chartered Accountants (SOSCA) supports almost 5,000 ICAEW Chartered Accountants and ACA students who live or work in the South. SOSCA was set up to assist its members in both their personal and professional development by providing an active programme of events that includes a combination of practical skills and CPD courses, as well as social events and networking opportunities. SOSCA also aims to promote the profession of accountancy as well as the ICAEW brand.

SOSCA is administered by committee, made up of office holders which include a President, Deputy President, Vice President and a Treasurer. The rest of the committee is made up of a mix of Business and Practice members, representatives from the student society, younger members, local town groups and joint professional groups.
